Transmission Oil Cooler Cleaning        

You must clean the transmission oil cooler located in the radiator. Metal and dirt can get trapped inside these coolers and can contaminate the valve body in your freshly installed transmission.

Spray a stream of solvent into the driver side inlet of the transmission oil cooler. Blow in compressed air, sealing the nozzle to the cooler fitting. This will blow out the debris backwards, dislodging the material from the cooler. We use a clean white shop towel to catch the debris. Keep doing this until the cooler is clean and nothing else comes out onto the shop towel. If debris does not clear out, you should replace the radiator or send your copper radiator to a radiator repair ship for cleaning..

The photos below are of a contaminated transmission oil pan of a freshly installed transmission where the oil cooler was not cleaned properly. This transmission malfunctioned due to metal particles hanging valves in the valve body.

These photos demonstrate just how important it is to thoroughly clean the transmission cooler. Fine metal particles like these will  infiltrate the valve body, causing valves to stick and a transmission malfunction.
